What is Nevada VB Metrics?
Nevada VB Metrics is the first ELO-based power ranking system for Nevada boys high school volleyball. Every team starts at 1500 ELO — ratings go up with wins and down with losses, adjusted for opponent strength, margin of victory, and how surprising the result was. The model predicts matchups before they happen and tracks its own accuracy all season long.

How ELO Works

Everyone starts at 1500
All teams begin equal. Ratings earn their place through results.

Upsets move ratings more
Beating a stronger team earns more ELO. Losing to a weaker team costs more.
3
Sweeps matter
Winning 2-0 or 3-0 earns more than grinding out a 2-1 or 3-2.
4
Ratings drift toward average
A 3% regression keeps ratings honest. You have to keep winning to stay at the top.
